Cartridges are rated to withstand over 20,000 load/unload cycles and 1 million tape passes. Verbatim*s LTO media supports compatible drives from Hewlett Packard, IBM, Seagate and all other leading manufacturers, while offering data transfer rates of 20-40MB/sec. for the first-generation 8-channel version. Verbatim LTO Ultrium cartridges combine the advantages of linear multi-channel, bi-directional formats with enhancements in servo technology, data compression, track layout, and error correction code to optimize capacity, speed, and reliability. Based on open technology, the Ultrium format offers a four-generation migration path for future capacity and performance enhancements. Upcoming products are expected to provide capacities up to 1.6TB (800GB native) on a single cartridge and transfer rates of 160-320MB/sec. (assuming 2:1 compression).
