First published in Italian in 1900 The Flame/Il Fuoco, is one of the most sensational works of the fin-de-siecle. Its notoriety was due to its being a thinly-veiled account of the author's tempestous affair with the legendary actress, Elenora Dusa. Written in a florid stlye reminiscent of Henry James and Walter Pater.
