In 1997, cinematic auteur Robert Altman returned to the small screen with his executively produced television crime-drama GUN. Created by James Sadwith, the series took an unusual anthology approach with stand-alone episodes that followed the changing ownership of a mysterious handgun through a rotating roster of actors, writers, and directors that included Ted Demme, James Gandolfini, Rosanna Arquette, Randy Quaid, Daryl Hannah, Sally Kellerman, Carrie Fisher, Kirsten Dunst, Daniel Stern, and Martin Sheen.
